Learning & Teaching

LEARNING & TEACHING

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

- Nelson Mandela

At St Christopher’s we recognise the importance of helping students become independent and motivated learners. In a world that is rapidly changing, children need more than just knowledge. They need to develop skills and attitudes that will help them to become confident learners and successful individuals. Our curriculum aims to support this development by matching learning experiences to the identified needs of each student.

English

A successful language program is one in which reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing are integrated in a supportive and stimulating environment.

Mathematics

Knowing our students and their individual strengths and learning needs ensures that classroom activities focus on developing and extending the mathematical capabilities of all learners.

Contemporary Learning

St Christopher’s is a school which promotes contemporary learning. We strive to engage in innovative teaching practices.

We employ an inquiry based approach, to learning within an integrated curriculum, developing the knowledge, skills and dispositions.

LOTE (Languages Other Than English) is part of our rotations program. The LOTE offered at St Christopher’s is Italian.

Along with effective classroom practice the educators at St Christopher’s have well chosen and practical interventions available to support their literacy program and teaching and learning strategies.

At St Christopher’s Primary School, Health and Physical Education promotes an understanding of the importance of personal and community actions.

The art show that is held every two years is an important part of the creative process as it allows the children to develop their confidence and appreciation for art in an environment that celebrates their talents and achievements.
